Russian Reading Update: Time for Tolstoy

bookshelf_banner Continuing with my ongoing Russian reading project, I’ve had the pleasure of a month of  indulging in Tolstoy.   The plan is to read the Russian classics in chronological order.  Yes, I’ve read them individually as great novels in their own right, but this project is about finding the connections between them and seeing how they fit into my rather superficial understanding of Russian history.

I’ve aways been a Tolstoy fan, but reading his works as a set of Russian, rather than world, classics has been a fantastic experience.  Go to the Russian Reading Page to see how he fits in to the Russian canon and also to see how I feel about his increasingly odd ideas on humanity and sex – being a literary genius doesn’t always lead to a healthy philosophy of life!
